Kenner’s Kolache Bakery: A Healthier Spot for Sweets

March 22, 2017 10:00 am

If you're looking for a healthier breakfast option—or a less sugary sweet, for that matter—check out Kenner's Kolache Bakery in Arlington. Namesake and owner David Kenner bakes up traditional Czech pastries called kolaches, but he makes some healthy modifications. Instead of frying them, his team bakes the pastries. And when he's crafting sweet varieties, David cuts two-thirds of the sugar to make the treat a bit healthier.

Neither of these tweaks changes the fresh taste of Kenner's pastries, though. Come by in the morning and order a savory kolache like the sausage or bacon and cheese for proof. You can also try something sweet, such as the strawberry cream cheese, blueberry, or apricot kolaches. Regardless of what you try, you can rest assured that your pastry will contain zero preservatives—another perk of grabbing something at Kenner's Kolache Bakery versus your typical cafe. Will you be stopping by this local spot?
